Specific Need

Funds received during match day this year will be used towards the purchase of a Wander Management door safety system. Because of the high number of residents with Alzheimer’s or dementia, a lot of time is spent working to help the resident have meaningful life, minimize the mental decline as much as possible, and keep them safe as many spend a lot of time wandering throughout the building. The Wander Management system would allow each elder the ability to freely move throughout the home without staff having to be worried about the potential for the elder to unsafely exit the building. The elders who are confused and exit seeking would wear a bracelet. All doors would have the Wander Management safety system installed so that if an elder with a bracelet approached, the door would lock. Anyone not wearing a bracelet could come and go through the doors as normal. This safety technology would ensure that elders are not able to go outside without staff being with them yet also allows them to freely walk throughout the home. This would result in a much safer environment yet allow as much independence as possible.
