Specific Need
In 2025, donations received will be used to to beautify and maintain the historical cemeteries of the Antioch Cemetery Association, including the cemeteries of Wells and Proctor. Financial Needs:
1. Continue tombstone repair of historic graves at Antioch and Wells cemeteries.
2. Continue to clear trees and brush from tombstones and cemetery boundaries.
3. Plant evergreen trees for future generations in coordination with the Kansas Forestry Service at Antioch Cemetery.
4. Update and Digitize Maps and Directories.
Mission
The Antioch Cemetery Association Mission: Provide a respectful burial place at Antioch, Wells, and Proctor Cemeteries, honor Veterans for their service, preserve and beautiful historical grounds, offer support to families, maintain fiscal responsibility.
Profile
The Antioch Cemetery was established in 1867 and is located southwest of Frankfort. It was chartered by the state of Kansas in 1879, and remains one of the oldest non-profit cemeteries in the state, having been incorporated for over 150 years. The Association cares for three cemeteries: Antioch, Wells, and Proctor, all located within Bigelow or Wells townships.
The Antioch Cemetery Association has no paid employees, and a five member board governing and maintaining the three cemeteries. Antioch Cemetery is an active cemetery with anywhere from 7 to 12 burials a year. Most of the work is voluntary and the Association depends heavily on monetary gifts from families and descendants in the Frankfort area.
